Kerbela Development Proposal Update
Knoxville City Council member Karyn Adams updates us on the proposed residential development at the site of Kerbela Temple:
“Planning Commission heard the Kerbela Development Proposal at its May 14, 2026, meeting. The South Waterfront Advocacy and Advisory Group (SWAAG) detailed the specific and consistent issues of concern with the proposal. CR Endeavors, the developer, argued that their concept and the site require variances. Planning Commission spent two hours on the case and sent it back to the Administrative Review Committee (ARC) as needing more work. Kerbela Temple proposal
“As of this writing, CR Endeavors has indicated that they will be revising their proposal. No date for next review has been announced. You can view the entire hearing (start at 25:37).
“I’m immensely proud of SWAAG’s contributions, and grateful to the SoKno and Knoxville community for speaking up, coming to meetings, making comments on the Planning site, and dedicating so many hours and so much energy to insisting that the South Waterfront Code be followed.
“I also appreciate the time spent by Planning Commission to really listen and wrestle with this significant case. Please stay engaged and attentive for when the next round of plan revisions is shared.”
