Food City likes Starbucks. The company has opened its 30th location and plans a number more in the near future. The most recent is at 2712 Loves Creek Road in northeast Knoxville.

Starbucks offers a wide assortment of blended hot and cold coffees and beverages, including seasonal favorites, as well as an assortment of breakfast sandwiches and pastries.

Race Against Hunger underway

Food City has teamed with its customers since 1992 to raise money for local hunger relief organizations through Race Against Hunger.

Steven C. Smith, company president and CEO, said last year’s promotion raised over $602,400, and he hopes to exceed that this year. The promotion runs Nov. 3-30. Food City customers are asked to donate $1, $3 or $5 at checkout or round up their order total to the next dollar amount. 100 percent of money collected goes to local hunger relief organizations.

Approximately six meals are provided for every dollar donated. Kevin Stafford, vice president of marketing, said Race Against Hunger is one way we can help those in need right here in our own community.

Customers who contribute using their ValuCard will be electronically entered to win their choice of a season race package at Bristol Motor Speedway or a $2,500 contribution to the charity of their choice.

Friends & Pets in Need

Food City customers can purchase a specially marked bag containing non-perishable food items as well as bags containing pet food products for $10 plus tax through Dec. 31. Customers select the bag, pay at checkout and deposit it in the collection bins located at the front of the store. 100 percent of the products collected will benefit local hunger relief organizations and animal shelters throughout the region.

Pep Rally at Powell

UT Pep Rallies, held in conjunction with WIVK Radio, have been popular this fall as enthusiasm grows about the Volunteer football program. One remaining event is scheduled for 3-6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Powell Food City, 7350 Clinton Hwy., before the Vols’ home game with Georgia on Nov. 13.

The Pep Rallies feature UT cheerleaders, members of the UT dance team and the team mascot, Smokey. All will generally pose for photos with your family. Meanwhile, those attending will enjoy free snacks, activities for the kids, and a chance to win tickets to the next day’s game.
