Powell Church, 323 W. Emory Road, will host “Walking Through the Holidays with Joy” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. Breakfast at 9:30 a.m. The free event is open to the public and sponsored by Powell Church, Mynatt Funeral Home and Walking with Joy.

“You may find that you are approaching this holiday season with a sense of dread due to the losses that you have experienced … death of a loved one, a divorce, a lifestyle change or separation that sets up the situation where people who were important in your life are no longer present at your holiday celebrations and rituals,” reads the invitation. “Explore ways to cope and find hope during the holidays so you can move beyond the pain.”

Joy Gaertner, the presenter, founded Walking with Joy to transform pain into peace. She has been involved with ministry roles since 1974, but in 2005 she decided to focus specifically on trauma-related recovery.
