West Side Y hosts Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge is always an invigorating event to say the least for those teachers from across Knox County brave enough to don swim suits, shorts and T-shirts or even costumes so they can jump into a frigid pool to honor their Special Olympic athletes.

They not only have to be brave enough to jump into the water, but they have to raise at least $75 each to have the privilege. The funds raised are divided between their school’s special education programs, Knoxville Special Olympics and Special Olympics of Tennessee.

This year’s Polar Plunge raised over $40,000. The Special Olympic Games will be held at Powell High School starting Monday, April 17, with track and field competitions and everyone is encouraged to attend to support these athletes.

West High School boys & girls track and lacrosse teams volunteered a morning to clean up the West High field and locker rooms in preparation for the spring season. West High hosted the Spring Baseball Play Date this past Saturday for area high schools baseball teams to showcase their talents on the diamond.
