Wallace Real Estate is pleased to welcome Suzanne Stone as a summer intern, bringing with her a love of writing, communication, creativity , and a curiosity about how businesses connect with both internal and external audiences.
A Knoxville native, Suzanne is currently attending the University of Tennessee, where she is studying Communication Studies. She says the major was a natural fit because it combines several areas she enjoys, including interpersonal communication, journalism, digital marketing, public relations, and writing.
“I have always loved to write, and I knew I wanted to choose a path that would allow for an aspect of writing,” says Stone. “Communications was the perfect fit to do so.”
When Suzanne began looking for an internship, she hoped to find an opportunity that would help her better understand how communication is used in everyday professional settings.
“After getting an understanding of who and what Wallace is all about, I knew I really wanted to be an intern because of how much integrity they have and how personable they are with not only the customers but also with their employees,” Suzanne said.
During her internship, Suzanne has been working on a project that uses AI software to help transform longer REALTOR® training videos into shorter, more accessible, and engaging pieces of content. The work has given her hands-on experience with content organization, video repurposing , and adapting information into formats that are easier for agents to retain.
Through the experience, Suzanne says she has learned how important it is to tailor information for different audiences. “Through working on training videos and communication projects, I’ve learned how important it is to take complex information and make it clear, useful, and engaging,” she said. “Strong communication and adaptability are valuable in any career path.”
While the projects have helped her build practical skills, Suzanne says one of her favorite parts of the internship has been getting to know the people behind Wallace Real Estate.
“When I started, I was nervous as this was my first office job, but when I arrived, everyone was very welcoming and kind,” she said. “When I have had questions about my projects or really about anything, everyone is always ready and happy to help me.”
Suzanne’s connection to Wallace goes back much further than this summer. When she was around 8 or 9 years old, her grandparents knew the Wallace family through work and business events. When George Wallace was running for City Council, Suzanne joined her grandparents in helping with the campaign.
“I happened to come along and walk through our neighborhood, passing out candy and knocking on doors,” she said.
That full-circle connection makes her summer at Wallace especially meaningful.
Outside of school and work, Suzanne enjoys reading, hiking, spending time outdoors, watching movies, trying new restaurants, and being with friends and family. She describes herself as someone who enjoys learning, being creative, and trying new things.
For other college students considering an internship, Suzanne’s advice is simple: be open-minded and willing to learn. “Take the internship even if you don’t feel fully ready, because real learning comes from experience and seeing how a business functions day to day,” she said. “Even if you are still figuring out your career path, the experience can help you discover what you enjoy doing, the skills you want to continue building and how to apply what you learned in a professional setting.”
