Sterl the Pearl turns trivia host for incoming nurses

If anyone has attended UT football games, they have heard the unmistakable voice of former Vol quarterback Sterling Henton as he transforms to DJ Sterl the Pearl rallying the fans with his musical raps and cheers.

I not only adored him as quarterback Henton and pregame Sterl the Pearl, but I loved the softspoken volunteer Sterl the Pearl who set up all the equipment at 6:30 a.m. the first day of school when I was principal at Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Academy, so he could welcome all the students to their first day of the new school year.

He still supports causes with his upbeat personality and message of “let’s have fun!” as he did last Monday at University of Tennessee Medical Center. He hosted the NCLEX trivia for incoming nurses at UTMC. NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is the exam that future nurses take in order to become licensed as registered nurses when they are finished with their degree requirements.

Natalie Clevenger, talent acquisition specialist for UTMC, explained how the event is planned as a fun preparation for the future nurses to welcome them to “family at UTMC.” She says, “We are thrilled to welcome so many exceptional registered nurses into our UTMC family. As the region’s academic medical center, Magnet-recognized hospital and Level I Trauma Center, our nurses’ clinical expertise is integral to providing outstanding patient care. We are so proud of our nursing team. There has never been a better time to be a nurse.”

Anyone who has ever been in a hospital recognizes the vital care and need for the nurse profession and is so grateful for their calling to the vocation.

Obviously, Sterl the Pearl recognizes that too with his taking the time to make this new group “feel the magic” of his unmatched enthusiasm for life and people.
