For more than six months, Regal has been patiently waiting for the one thing every shelter dog deserves: a family to call his own. And while we adore this handsome boy, we can’t understand why he continues to be overlooked. Regal is a two-year-old, 63-pound terrier mix with a personality as big as his smile. He’s a staff favorite and one of those dogs who instantly makes you wonder why he hasn’t already been adopted. Friendly, affectionate, and full of life, Regal loves making new canine friends, as long as they enjoy playtime as much as he does, and he’s wonderful with children, from babies to even the occasional moody teenager.

What makes Regal stand out even more is that he’s a tripod. An old injury required the amputation of one of his legs before he came to HSTV, but don’t let that fool you into thinking he’s limited. Missing a leg hasn’t slowed him down one bit. Regal still enjoys long walks, zoomies in the yard, and play sessions with his dog buddies. In fact, he’s far more special than needy.

The only thing Regal asks for in his forever home is a cat-free environment. To him, cats are just a little too much like squirrels, and he can’t resist giving chase. But aside from that, Regal is the kind of dog who fits right into family life. Whether he’s playing, exploring, or simply flopping into your lap for some cuddle time, he just wants to be your best friend. Sometimes the dogs who wait the longest have the biggest hearts.

Regal has spent more than half a year watching other pets find their families while he continues to hope that his turn is coming. We know the right person is out there, we just need them to meet him. And a special thank you goes to Cassie Krause Photography, whose generosity and talent help showcase animals like Regal in the best light possible. Her beautiful portraits capture not only their faces, but their personalities, and we are so grateful for her heart of gold.

If you have room in your home and heart for a loyal companion who will love you unconditionally, come meet Regal. One visit with this amazing three-legged boy, and you’ll quickly understand why everyone at HSTV has fallen in love with him. Perhaps his happily ever after is waiting with you.

Pet Tip: Dogs with three legs can live full, active lives, but maintaining a healthy weight is key to reducing joint strain and preventing injury.
