Bill Street, President and CEO of Zoo Knoxville, posted on social media, which we want to share with the Knox County community.

Street says:

“I’m not sure I’ll ever get accustomed to the generosity of the Knoxville community. For generations, Knoxvillians have embraced their zoo and watched it evolve from a small collection of animals on a hillside in Chilhowee Park into the most visited cultural attraction in Knoxville and a tourism anchor for East Knoxville.

“In less than two years at Zoo Knoxville, we have invested more than $10 million in capital improvements, secured the largest state investment in our history with a $5 million commitment from the State of Tennessee, received two separate $1 million gifts and another gift exceeding $500,000, hosted two gala events that each generated more than $1 million in net proceeds, and secured nearly $4 million in capital support from the City of Knoxville and Knox County.

“These investments are much more than numbers. They represent a community that believes in the power of wildlife conservation, education, family experiences, and creating a vibrant future for East Tennessee.

“I am deeply grateful to our donors, public partners, members, volunteers, staff, and guests who continue to invest in Zoo Knoxville’s future. Together, we are building a zoo that grows alongside our community and strengthens its position as one of the most beloved organizations in East Tennessee.

“The future is incredibly bright, and we are just getting started. I’m humbled to be a part of Zoo Knoxville’s success and history.”
