Photographing the ‘South’ in the Dog Days

There are times in mid to late summer when the heat of the south mitigates the desire to photograph what can be a barren landscape. August is one of those times.

Fortunately, there are remedies for this condition in the Southern Appalachians. We have streams and lakes and high mountain vistas to beat the heat.

At elevations over 5000 feet, one can view the first vestiges of Autumn, too. The Honey Badger took advantage of a cool evening on the Appalachian Trail to combat the August madness with an image encompassing the highest mountains east of the Mississippi River.

This philosophy never seems to fail.
