‘Sidewalk Awakening’

Christopher RobinOur Town Arts

Of our lifetime experiences, one of the great pleasures of world travel is watching streets come to life from a sidewalk café in a strange city. Taken in the early morning in Nafplio, Greece, this is typical of the places we like. With the tree framing the scene, the sidewalk pavers lead the eyes farther into the image.

I sometimes blame my parents for my wanderlust and an oversized sense of adventure. With a World Book Encyclopedia or Atlas on his lap, Dad sat many evenings dreaming of travel and worldly experiences.

Mom and Dad encouraged us to live life big. I will always remember their suggestion to spend the summer hitchhiking through Europe. Their dreams became mine and I have lived many experiences that they would have celebrated through me.

This month would have been my parents’ 75th anniversary. I salute them for turning us loose to go and discover the world.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours. They have a small studio and gallery in the Phoenix Building at 418 South Gay Street where you can stop and see their work.
