Food City is celebrating the young professionals who spent their summer learning the business from the inside out — and the company’s internship program has earned national recognition.

National Intern Day was observed Thursday, July 30, a day set aside each year on the last Thursday in July to recognize interns and the contributions they make in the workplace.

Food City marked the occasion by highlighting its summer interns and the fresh ideas, creativity and enthusiasm they brought to the company.

“This summer, our interns brought fresh ideas, creative thinking, and a passion for learning to the team,” Food City shared.

The company has another reason to celebrate. KVAT Food Stores Inc., doing business as Food City, was named to the 2026 Top 100 Internship Programs list. The national recognition is determined through a combination of public voting and judging by a panel of industry experts.

Judges consider factors including program structure, career development opportunities, company culture and engagement, compensation and benefits, full-time employment prospects and unique aspects of an internship program.

For Food City’s summer interns, the experience provides an opportunity to gain hands-on workplace experience, develop professional skills and learn from people already established in their careers. At the same time, interns bring new perspectives and ideas to the workplace.

An internship may last only a summer, but the lessons, relationships and experience can help shape a career long after summer ends.
