Today’s the day for our annual Legacy Luncheon for the Parks. It’s from 11:30-1:30 at the Strong Stock Farm on the Holston River and is our signature fundraiser. I’ll have a full report next week and, hopefully, some pictures.

Let’s just say, it’s good to have help when you entertain 1,100 of your closest friends for lunch on the farm. And thanks to author Cheryl Strayed, our main speaker.

Kayak 101 at the Cove: 10 a.m., The Cove at Concord Park. Cost $35. Info: River Sports Outfitters at 865-523-0066. An introduction to kayaking where participants learn about boat dynamics, appropriate gear, basic skills such as the forward stroke, sweep stroke and ferrying. Register online.

Hiking the Appalachian Trail – Trip Planning: 6:00 p.m., REI. Free. Info: REI Knoxville at 865-584-1938. We’ll teach you the logistics behind a hiking or backpacking trip. We’ll focus on trip planning skills for: day hikes, section hikes, and thru hikers. Register online.

Friday, October 21

Group Hike with the Y: 10:00 a.m., Obed Wild & Scenic River. Free. Info: YMCA of East Tennessee. We will be hiking the Lilly Bluff trail in the Obed Wild and Scenic River area. This trail is good for fall leaf color. The hike is 4 miles, plus a short hike to the Lilly Bluff overlook. Meet at the Trailhead parking lot. Register online.

Sunday, October 23

RSO Halloween Costume Paddle: 2:00 p.m., Suttree Landing Park. Info: River Sports Outfitters at 865-523-0066. We’ll paddle to Calhouns and back. Afterwards join us at Trailhead for a $1 off brews. Gift cards awarded for Best Costumes. Kayak rentals are $15. Book online.
