Halls Farmers Market is rain or shine

I love to go to farmers markets because not only am I supporting local farmers, but I am also getting fresh, locally sourced produce without having to grow it myself. The markets often feature products made from farm produce, such as homemade jams and baked goods, adding to the overall appeal.

Halls really did have it on May 20 when the Halls Crossroads Women’s League sponsored the Halls Farmers Market that opened for the season at Black Oak Plaza Shopping Center. The opening day was attended by scores of shoppers braving the overcast, threatening skies to grab the first fruits (literally) of produce from our region as well as locally crafted handiworks that were available from vendors. Tomatoes, homemade butters, fudge and caramel corn were the starters for now with so much more to come as the season continues.

Children enjoyed the market as much as their parents, being entertained at the children’s booth with crafts, scavenger hunts with prizes of course and other engaging attractions. Saturday’s theme was “On the Farm” and there will be a new theme each month.

Mary Carroll, president of  Halls Crossroads Women’s League, said, “We had a great a farmers market today with the weather holding off till the very end. We look forward to the rest of the season!”

The market will continue to provide fresh produce and other products every Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon through October 7.
