Gibbs High plays in state softball tournament

Sandra ClarkGibbs/Corryton

Gibbs High softball is a juggernaut at tournament time, winning 10 TSSAA state championships in modern times: 83, 84, 86, 87, 88, 98, 99, 00, 12 and 17.

And now the Lady Eagles (36-4) have left for Murfreesboro for the 2023 state championships. The first game is today (5/23/23) at 4 p.m. vs East Hamilton (26-10) at The StarPlex F2 in Murfreesboro. The winner will advance to play the winner of the Lexington (26-13-1) vs Munford (19-9) game. The winners bracket game will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at McNight Field. It’s a double-elimination tournament. Brackets are here.

The best way to keep up with the team is to go to Murfreesboro. The next best way is the team’s Facebook page.

Gibbs won the region championship by beating Halls High 2-1 in an 11-inning ballgame.

Wishing good luck to coach Carol Mitchell and her squad.
