In our last edition of Everyday Genius, we offered Part I – road trip hacks, with Part II coming today.
Before heading out, check tire pressure, oil levels, windshield wipers, and your spare tire. A quick vehicle check can prevent roadside headaches later. Keeping a flashlight, bottled water, jumper cables, and a simple first-aid kit in the car is always a good idea.
Technology can also help make travel easier. Phone mounts keep navigation visible and safer for drivers, while portable battery packs ensure devices stay charged during long hours on the road. Travelers may also want to use apps that track gas prices, road construction, and weather conditions ahead.
We recommend packing one extra outfit in an easy-to-reach bag in case of spills, weather changes, or unexpected overnight delays.
The best advice always is to avoid over planning or underestimating potential delays.
Everyday Genius will provide weekly little tricks. Big wins.

I would recommend you keep your vehicle in top condition at ALL times, change, check your OIL and other fluids, always look at the driveway for spots that indicate a leak, and determine the source by the color. Clear, watery, AC drain.(normal) Clear to beige, Power steering or brake fluid (not normal) Green/yellow, Coolant. (not normal) Brown, Engine Oil ( many cars leak some from many parts, volume is the key concern) Red, Transmission Fluid (Not Normal) Most of these problems occur in older high mileage vehicles but not exclusively. Never skimp on Tires! They are the only thing between you and the pavement. I always buy Michelin and still keep them rotated and checked. The best travel insurance? AAA. They remove the headache. For what they do, worth every penny. And the Gold Membership pays towing up to 100 miles. Oh yeah.
