In a world full of complicated gadgets, endless apps, and advice that changes by the day, the best life hacks are often the simplest ones. Small habits and practical shortcuts that quietly save time, not just once, but over and over again.
Try these and share with your friends when you see how well they work!
Prepare for tomorrow before today ends. Laying out clothes, charging devices, or making a short to-do list the night before can turn a rushed morning into a calm one.
Keep duplicates of commonly used items. Extra phone chargers, scissors, reading glasses, and tape kept where you spend a good deal of time will save time and frustration. For instance, I have reading glasses in every room of my house, in my car, and in every carry bag I use. Yes, it is a lot of glasses, but so convenient when I unexpectedly need to read fine print. The same with scissors. I have at least four pairs of scissors located in my house, car and garage.
Home organization itself is filled with small tricks that make daily life easier. Clear storage bins and labels on shelves, baskets, and containers help every family member know where things belong.
One in, one out rule. When a new shirt, kitchen gadget, or decoration comes into the home, an old one is donated or discarded. This prevents overcrowding and keeps possessions manageable.
The two-minute rule is another habit we mentioned previously, but is worth repeating. If a task takes less than two minutes — washing a dish, sorting the mail, hanging up a coat, or wiping down a counter — do it immediately instead of postponing it. Small acts of discipline keep life manageable.
Relationship life hacks also reduce stress. Writing birthdays in a calendar with reminders, sending short thank-you messages, or checking in with loved ones regularly strengthens connections.
Phone/calendar hacks help with forgetfulness. I have learned that setting an alarm on my phone for 5-10 minutes before I am to call someone or expect a call takes away the stress of getting busy and forgetting. I also set alarms for daily tasks that need to be done, such as exercise and medication. Although I still turn off the alarm and don’t exercise as often as it reminds me to.
Perhaps the greatest life hack of all is learning that simplicity usually works better than complexity. Systems that are easy to maintain become habits, and habits shape the quality of everyday life.
Everyday Genius will provide little tricks every week. Big wins.
