The Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley is looking for volunteers to add a little holiday cheer to the shopping season while helping animals in need.

Mast General Store has invited the Humane Society to operate a gift-wrapping table during some of the busiest shopping days of the holiday season. Volunteers will wrap shoppers’ gifts, connect with the community, share information about the Humane Society and help raise money for animals in its care.

Two to three volunteer spots are available per shift, and no expert gift-wrapping skills are required.

The gift-wrapping schedule begins on Black Friday, Nov. 27, with volunteers needed from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

Additional opportunities are available during the weekend before Christmas:

  • Friday, Dec. 11: 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 12: 10 a.m.-9 p.m. — filled
  • Sunday, Dec. 13: 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Monday, Dec. 14: 5-8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 15: 5-8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 16: 5-8 p.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 17: 5-8 p.m.

The 5-8 p.m. shifts Dec. 14-17 may be especially convenient for volunteers who work during the day.

The Humane Society hopes to fill every available shift, allowing the organization to maintain the gift-wrapping table throughout the scheduled hours and maximize both community outreach and fundraising.

Volunteers can sign up through the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley volunteer page. Gift-wrapping shifts will also be added to Better Impact for volunteers to select dates and times that work for them.

The activity is about more than perfectly wrapped presents. Organizers say it is an opportunity to increase awareness of the Humane Society’s work while raising funds for animals waiting for homes.

Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for one shift — or two — and come prepared to have fun while helping a good cause.
