South College to host Child Car Seat Safety event: South College will partner with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) to host a free Child Car Seat Safety event from 9 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the institution’s Parkside campus, located at 400 Goody’s Drive. This is a free opportunity for parents and caregivers to ensure correct use and installation of child car seats.

Jazz on the Square. Market Square Mall offers entertainment on Tuesday nights from 7-9 p.m. on the outdoor stage. Bring a chair or blanket, or sit on the patio of one of the fine restaurants along the square. Jazz On The Square happens every week in September, weather permitting. Presented by the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra in partnership with the City of Knoxville Department of Special Events.

Preschool Story Time: A free weekly Tuesday preschool program, 10-11 a.m. at Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum, 2649 Boyds Bridge Pike, 37914.  Engaging stories, nature exploration, hands-on gardening, crafts and other activities that nurture the youngest gardeners and their grownups is offered April- October.

The Knoxville Museum of Art invites to new series: This ongoing series, Arts Together: A Conversation Series, is Thursday, August 21, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Knoxville Museum of Art, 1050 World’s Fair Park, 37916. The series brings together leaders from several Knoxville arts organizations to talk about the issues shaping our cultural life today: Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Knoxville Opera, Clarence Brown Theatre, and Knoxville Museum of Art, with KMA’s Executive Director Steven Matijcio serving as moderator.

The Farragut Museum has temporary sports exhibit: Beginning August 19 through the end of the year the Farragut Museum will have sports mementos from Farragut stars such as US Open golfer Lance Simpson, MLB players Tony, Joey, and Nicky Delmonico and Nick Senzel, NFL Dallas Cowboy Bill Bates, and world champion triathlon winner Eric Bell. Farragut resident Shelley Collier was the team captain for the 1987 Lady Volunteers national championship basketball team and has a special basketball on loan. 

My Travels Count Survey is Live: The Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is partnering with The Center for Transportation Research (CTR) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, the Center for Transportation Innovations in Education and Research (C-TIER) at the University of Memphis, and other transportation planning agencies across the state and region to launch phase two of the My Travels Count survey through November 17. Early voting for city of Knoxville primary election Aug. 6-21. Eligible city voters who live in these districts can vote for Knoxville City Council candidates: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. Polls are generally open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, with Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can find a sample ballot here.
