Bring the whole family to a free cooking class for three weeks beginning Monday, January 29, 5:30-6:30 p.m. and each Monday through February 12 at Charles Warner Cansler Family YMCA, 616 Jessamine Street, Knoxville.

The YMCA is partnering with a team from Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee to offer this free 3-week family cooking class for children ages 7-14, with at least one parent or guardian in attendance (two are welcome)!

An instructor from Second Harvest will teach basic kitchen skills including knife skills, measuring and mixing ingredients, seasoning to taste and more. Then, the family will cook and eat a recipe together.

All participants will be gifted select household groceries each week as well as kitchen utensils at the end of the 3-week program.

The menu for the three weeks:

  1. January 29 Sweet Potato & Black Bean Quesadillas
  2. February 5 Rainbow Fried Rice
  3. February 12 Sponge Cake with Fruit & Yogurt Topping

Spots are limited, so please only register if you are able to attend all three nights.  EACH child must be registered and parent/guardians do not need to register but must attend with their child.

Registration is currently reserved for Y members. If spots remain, non-member registration will open on January 15. If it fills up, watch for the next free class!Online Registration: Free Cooking Class Registration.
