Two volunteers, including a former resident at a property owned by Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation, have started a Little Free Library for residents of Five Points, with a focus on children.

Marie Illingworth, who lived near the Five Points area as a child, and Ngina Blair, a former resident of what was then called Walter P. Taylor Homes, officially opened the library with a ribbon cutting at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley Five Points Club. Info or to donate books here.

 

Linda Martin

Linda C. Martin is serving as interim senior vice president and senior vice chancellor for the UT Institute of Agriculture, beginning Sept. 1. Martin has served as the vice president for academic affairs and student success for the UT System. She has tenure in the Herbert College of Agriculture’s Department of Animal Science. She will serve while the university conducts a search to fill the position following the Aug. 31 retirement of Tim Cross.

Sharon Pryse

Sharon J. Pryse, CEO and founder of The Trust Company of Tennessee, is a finalist in the Dream Big Awards, sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The awards celebrate the achievements of small businesses and honor their contributions to America’s economic growth. Founded in 1987 and with offices in Knoxville, Chattanooga and the Tri-Cities, The Trust Company of Tennessee currently has more than $4 billion under management. Info or watch the awards show here.

Laura Overstsreet

Laura Overstreet, director of the Small Business Development Center in Knoxville, has been named one of the America’s SBDC 2021 State Stars. Since joining the SBDC, she has assisted small businesses generate over $29 million in capital formation and helped 85 entrepreneurs start a business.

Sarah Peacock

Heather Beck and Sarah Peacock, employees at BarberMcMurry Architects, have earned the credential of WELL Accredited Professional. WELL is a building standard focused exclusively on human health and wellness in the built environment, marrying best practices in design and construction with evidence-based medical and scientific research on human health and wellbeing. Beck is the firm’s communications manager. Peacock is an architect concentrating in healthcare design. They join six other WELL APs at BarberMcMurry.
