Trout Lily at peak bloom on Porter Creek Trail

Wildflower Report – Porter Creek Trail – (B to Fern Falls) – 25 March 2024

  • Bent Trillium – Some – Various stages of the blooming process.
  • Bird Foot Violet – Few – Near peak bloom.
  • Bishop Caps – Some – Approaching peak bloom (mostly after long foot log bridge).
  • Blood Root – Few – Various stages in the blooming process.
  • Brook Lettuce – Few – Just starting to bloom (below the trail on left first quarter of mile up trail).
  • Common Blue Violet – Some – Approaching peak bloom if not at peak bloom.
  • Dutchmen’s Breeches – Some
  • Foam Flower – Few – In the very early stages of the blooming process – just starting to bloom.
  • Golden Ragwort – Few – Just starting to bloom – First mile of the trail. (Some along Greenbrier Road).
  • Halberd Leaf Violet – Many + – Mostly at peak bloom.

Hepatica

  • Hepatica – Some – Almost at full bloom – mostly in the Fern Falls area.
  • Hooked Buttercup – A couple – Right at peak bloom.
  • Large Flowered Trillium – Many – Best display after long foot log bridge and around Fern Falls.
  • Long Spurred Violet – Many – at full bloom.
  • Robins Plantain – Some – Approaching peak bloom (First quarter-mile up the trail).
  • Round Leaf Violet – Some – At peak bloom.
  • Rue Anemone – Many – Mostly at peak bloom. (Beautiful)
  • Seersucker Sedge – One clump – Just about gone (well past peak bloom).
  • Star Chickweed – Many – At peak bloom.
  • Sweet White Violet – Many ++ – Mostly at peak bloom (all along the trail both sides).
  • Trillium Erect – Few – Closed to peak bloom – Just after long foot log bridge on the right – embankment.
  • Trout Lily – Some – At peak bloom – Mostly after the long foot log bridge (very beautiful now).
  • White Fringed Phacelia – Many ++ – Should be at full bloom by the weekend (after long foot log bridge).
  • Wild Geranium – Few – Just starting to bloom (mostly after the long foot log bridge).
  • Wild Phlox – Some – Close to peak bloom (Mostly after the long foot log bridge – (nice).
  • Wood Anemone – Some – Should be at full bloom soon.
  • Yellow Trillium – Some – Just starting to bloom.
  • Yellow Woodland Violet – Some – Approaching if not at peak bloom.

Notes:

  • Outstanding display of Wild Phlox along Greenbrier Road.
  • Few of the Stone Crop are budded the last quarter of mile before the falls on the left.
  • Depending on the weather this weekend should find many of the flowers at peak bloom.
