South blog: Stanley’s, Lakemoor Hills & more

Susan EspirituOur Town Neighbors, South Knox

Monte Stanley was presented the Felicia Award by Keep Knoxville Beautiful. This honor is presented each year to the individual who promotes a cleaner, greener and more beautiful Knoxville.

Through Stanley’s Greenhouse, Monte supports our area’s gardeners and community service organizations in many ways. He donates and plants flowers along South Knoxville’s entryway corridor of Sevier Avenue, a portion of Dogwood Elementary’s Nature Trail is on the Stanley Farm and the Stanley-Lippencott Park is a partnership between the city of Knoxville and the Stanley family.

Lakemoor Hills Garden Club won the Community Project Orchid Award from Keep Knoxville Beautiful. The annual event was on February 16.

Lakemoor Hills has a 3-year project focused on developing an unused and neglected piece of property into a small pocket park with a native rain garden, trees, shrubs/perennials and a strolling path. It has become a little jewel where neighbors meet and greet, hold Happy Hour gatherings, book club and garden club meetings as well as being just a peaceful place to walk, sit and reflect with nature. It has taken many neighbors’ hands to not only create the beautiful park but to keep its beauty maintained.

Beat the Winter Blues, hosted by Stanley’s Greenhouse on Feb. 3, benefited Knoxville’s Ronald McDonald House. Harpist Anne Jackson shared her exuberant presence as she set the stage for the event with relaxing music on her harp. The guests made this sold-out event a great deal of fun and a big success!
