Katherine Bike posted about Jonah Wood, 13, who took the lead in researching and writing most of a grant request for Seven Islands Park to the East Tennessee Foundation Wildlife Preservation Endowment.

Jonah Wood helps with birdhouse installation

Jonah requested funding for $5,000 over a two-year period, “to help replace old bird boxes throughout the park that had been damaged by fire, weather and woodpeckers with new ones made from recycled plastic with predator guards.”

The Friends of Seven Islands helped complete the balance of the grant and the group was awarded the grant in September 2022. The first round of bird boxes has been built and were installed on Sunday, February 5, by the Tennessee Bluebird Society that made them. Jonah and his family were at the park to help install some of these boxes.
