A celebration of the life of Tom Wall, 74, former University of Tennessee athletic trainer, is scheduled for Tuesday evening, June 11, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2500 Maryville Pike in Knoxville.

The family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. and the service will follow with the Rev. Kirby Ownby officiating.

Mr. Wall died on June 7. He is survived by Janelle, his wife of 46 years, daughters Leslie Gordon (Doug) and Jessica Yarboro (Kendall) and four grandchildren.

Mr. Wall was a graduate of East High School and UT. He was assistant trainer under the legendary Mickey O’Brien for four seasons and became head trainer in 1973. He stayed through the Bill Battle coaching era. When John Majors became coach of the Volunteers, he brought trainer Tim Kerin with him from Pittsburgh.

“Many, actually countless, Ol’ Vols owe a debt of gratitude to Tom Wall for keeping us ‘in the game’ when we were banged up and bruised,” said former tackle Jerry Holloway. “Tom was a real professional. He took his role as trainer very seriously and was an integral part of our championship program.”

Wall started his second career with the hospital products division of Abbott Labs and retired after 22 years. He served 27 years with the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a Mount Olive member for 38 years and was church administrator for the last 20.

Burial services are planned for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at Bethesda Cemetery, Morristown. Additional details here.
