Services today for Gibbs leader Rusty Carpenter

Services are today for Glenn “Rusty” Carpenter, 90, who died April 10 at home. Mr. Carpenter was a charter member of the Gibbs Ruritan Club, according to his obituary, and he assisted Clayton Sharp in starting the Boy Scout Troop 500, which is still active in the Gibbs community.

He served as a Marine during the Korean Conflict before joining Southern Bell Telephone Co. He retired as a regional network manager with Bellsouth after 40 years of service. In retirement, he worked part-time at his neighborhood Food City well into his 80s.

Survivors include wife Marie and sons Rick, Shane and Neal. The family will receive friends at Clapps Chapel United Methodist Church from 5 to 7 p.m. today (4/12) with the funeral at 7. Burial will be Saturday at Clapps Chapel Cemetery.
