Services are today for Arthur Vincent “Art” Clancy Jr., who passed away on July 29, 2022, at age 92. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, at Bridges Funeral Home, with the Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael Johnston, Monsignor William Gahagan and Father Bill McNeely officiating.

Mr. Clancy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sue Rueff Clancy, who was director of special events for the city of Knoxville when Victor Ashe was mayor.

“Art and Sue were a wonderful team,” Ashe said. “She was the lead person in the celebration of the city’s Bicentennial in 1991. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.”

Together, Art and Sue had six children, 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The full obituary is here.

Mr. Clancy graduated from Knoxville Catholic High School and the University of Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Air Force and in Korea as an intelligence officer. In 1958, he joined Clancy Optical Company. Over the next 50 years, as company president he achieved local, state and national recognition.

He was a past president of Knoxville Rotary Club and had served on numerous boards, including the Knoxville Chamber, YMCA, St. Mary’s Medical Center and Better Business Bureau.
