Gerald D. Clark Sr., who died in April at age 95, will be remembered this Friday, July 16, with services at Rose Mortuary, Broadway Chapel, and interment at 12:30 p.m. at the at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Hwy. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with a memorial service to follow.
Mr. Clark packed a lot of living into his 95 years. He was a leader in veterans’ affairs programs in Knox County and was a life member and lay pastor of the Church of God.
He was a veteran of WWII and received the Purple Heart for injuries suffered during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. He fought with the 75th Infantry Division, which famously helped halt a major German offensive in 1945. His advocacy was key in construction of the Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans Home in Knox County, and he was a longtime leader of the Knoxville Chapter 24 of the Disabled American Veterans.
