The Rotary Club of Bearden proudly recognized three exceptional members during its annual awards presentation, celebrating individuals whose dedication, leadership, and commitment embody Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.
Each year, the club honors members who have made a meaningful difference within the organization and throughout the community through three distinguished awards.
Lucy Gibson Newcomer of the Year
Tracy Simmons of Regions Bank was named the Lucy Gibson Newcomer of the Year Award – this award recognizes a member within his or her first full year of Rotary membership who has made a significant impact through service and active involvement. Selected through nomination and approval by the club’s Board of Directors, this award celebrates members who immediately embrace Rotary’s mission and demonstrate exceptional enthusiasm, leadership, and a willingness to serve.
Barney Thompson Rotarian of the Year
Bruce Van Cleve was awarded the Barney Thompson Rotarian of the Year Award. This prestigious honor is presented to a member who has made an outstanding impact on the club during the past year while serving as a positive ambassador for Rotary in the community. This individual exemplifies the values of Rotary through leadership, service, and integrity, earning the respect of fellow members and the community alike. The recipient is selected from a pool of candidates recommended by the Board of Directors and chosen through a vote of the board.
Tom Daughtrey Service Above Self Award
Paul Jaeger of The Trust Company received the Tom Daughtrey Service Above Self Award, which honors a longtime Rotarian whose dedication extends far beyond recognition. Presented to a member with at least seven years of service, this award recognizes someone whose commitment is demonstrated through consistent, selfless actions rather than public acknowledgment. It celebrates a Rotarian who serves not out of obligation, but from deeply held beliefs and an unwavering commitment to making a difference.

We are grateful for their leadership and the example they set for all of us.”
