Following last week’s feature on the magnificent Rosebay Rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum), these iconic Southern Appalachian shrubs are putting on another spectacular show along the newly opened Linville Falls Connector Trail in Pisgah National Forest.

Clusters of soft pink blooms stand out against the lush green canopy and misty forest path, offering hikers a beautiful reward as they make their way toward the Linville Gorge via the iconic falls. The Rosebay’s large, leathery leaves and impressive flower displays make it one of the most recognizable and beloved native plants in our region.

This new connector provides access from the Information Cabin on Kistler Memorial Highway to the Linville Falls parking area. The path highlights the rich biodiversity that makes the Blue Ridge such a special destination. Whether you’re a longtime hiker or just getting started, the trail’s rhododendron-lined stretches are worth the visit right now.
