It is easy to be consumed in the search for broad vistas of fall colors or even a single perfect tree exploding with bright orange or red. I was out with my camera a couple of times this week to see what would catch my eye.

These three images reminded me that the smaller part of a big scene can be inspiring.  None are prize winners, but all are reminders to appreciate the small details in front of us. The three are:

  • Changing leaves in front of Spruce Flats Falls in the national park. A nice hike, especially on a cool fall morning.
  • A single red leaf standing out on the forest floor of brown, a perfect specimen to my eye.
  • Sunlight shining through the rapidly changing leaves of a tree hanging over Norris Lake. I especially like the twisted branches.

Thinking of today’s Halloween holiday, do you see some ghoulish faces in the waterfall image?

Don’t be afraid to stop by our studio Friday night for the First Friday Art Walk. We will be open until 9 p.m.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours. They have a small studio and gallery in the Phoenix Building at 418 South Gay Street where you can stop and see their work.
