News from Legacy Parks

Legacy Parks’ intergenerational playground proposal was selected for a Phase I grant from the Trinity Health Foundation. The grant will be used over three months to research and design the play space, with the goal of receiving Phase 2 funding.

Designs for intergenerational playgrounds tend to include walking trails, wheelchair accessibility, interactive play structures, and, in many cases, low-impact fitness equipment – ellipticals, static bikes, body flexors – that promote muscle strength and cardiovascular activity.

At the heart of many intergenerational playgrounds is the social aspect of children working intimately with caregivers, parents, older children and grandparents as they gain confidence and coordination. The new playground is proposed for Beverly Park in north Knox County.
