New principals for Carter High, Cedar Bluff

Carter High School will be getting a new principal, as Dr. Jon Rysewyk has appointed current principal Angie Messer a music and performing arts specialist for Knox County Schools effective July 2022.

Ashley Booher, an assistant principal at Cedar Bluff Elementary School, has been named principal of the school effective July 2022. She replaces principal Melinda Russell.

Messer joined Knox County Schools in 1997 as an interim director of bands at Whittle Springs Middle School. She became the assistant director of bands at Bearden High later that year. She also has worked as the director of bands at Carter high and middle schools. In 2011, she became the associate director of bands and a TAP mentor teacher at Carter High and later an instrumental music professional development specialist for the district.

Booher joined KCS in 2007 as a teacher at Ritta Elementary School, where she also served as a TAP mentor and master teacher. She entered administration in 2015 as an assistant principal at Gibbs Elementary School and has also held that post at Corryton, New Hopewell and Cedar Bluff elementary schools. She holds two degrees from Tennessee Tech, including a master’s in instructional leadership.
