Faith in Politics

Former Tennessee legislator and Methodist minister Roy Herron will be at the Baker Center on the UT campus from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, to discuss and sign his new book, “Faith in Politics: Southern Political Battles Past and Present.” Join virtually here.

Roy Herron

For four decades, Herron served as a legislator, attorney, teacher and Methodist minister. In that work, he published essays and articles in Tennessee’s leading newspapers and authored pieces in publications from The Japan Times to The Wall Street Journal, covering various topics such as constitutional liberties, economic justice, health care, politics and more. Herron’s new book collects the most powerful of these writings. He addresses recurring contemporary issues, including voter ID laws, drunk driving statutes and women’s rights. The discussion, moderated by Dr. Katie Cahill, associate director and director of the Leadership & Governance program, will dive into some of the topics collected in Herron’s writings and add his contemporary insights.

This event is free and open to the public, and copies of Faith in Politics will be on sale at the event. Guests may park in the Vol Hall Garage on White Avenue at no charge by requesting a parking voucher from Baker Center staff at the event.
