State Sen. Becky Massey is a hard-working member of the legislature. And I can’t think of a time when she’s put out a press release or newsletter attacking anyone. Her “enemies list” would be short.

Last week she visited Greene and Unicoi counties, along with TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley, to see firsthand some of the bridges that washed out in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Almost incomprehensible road damage in upper East Tennessee

“We were able to thank our TDOT employees who are at ground zero working to get access and connectivity to our Tennesseans in the affected areas,” she said. Massey chairs the Transportation Committee in the state Senate.

“We have over 400 TDOT employees working in this area. I’m proud of their dedication and how much they were able to accomplish in a short period of time. There is still an enormous amount of work to do.

“We are going to have to re-build five bridges and repair our roads that have had to be closed. Along with our TDOT employees, many other departments are doing their part. A special thanks to people and businesses throughout Tennessee who are helping by volunteering or donating much needed supplies,” she posted on Oct. 4.

Here’s a TDOT video she shared.

This link updates every TDOT project underway; some I didn’t even know about. Not a bad idea to bookmark. Hopefully, repair work on Hurricane Helene damage won’t delay other needed TDOT projects.

And finally, here’s a link back to last week’s column with links to candidates’ websites and district maps.
