Kelly Absher: ‘Real estate is my career’

Kelly Absher is loving his job as an agent with Realty Executives Associates at West Hills, 124 N. Winston Road.

“Real estate is my career, not a hobby. I believe in loyalty to my clients and I honor the trust they have placed in me,” he says.

Absher is a Tennessee native who graduated from the University of Tennessee. He liked the big city vibe of Knoxville and decided to stay. (He came from Byrdstown, the county seat of Pickett County, population 798 in 2020.)

Being a native is helpful when working with out-of-town buyers, he says, because “it allows me to be an expert on the commerce, community and culture of the area.”

There’s another aspect that would help Kelly Absher be an outstanding listing agent – his college training and early career in marketing and public relations. “I worked with restaurants, bars and hotels,” he says. But in 2020, Covid shut down his clients. He pivoted to real estate.

In his second year, Absher won the Executive Award, given to high-performing agents.

He has high praise for Realty Executives. “The agency gives us the tools to be successful. Justin Bailey (broker) values ethics. I can see why the company is No. 1 in the region.

“Justin tells us, if another agent sees a call from REA, we want them to answer it, knowing they will have a great experience.”

Absher says he will do what it takes to get a deal across the finish line. The previous weekend found him in Greeneville, Tennessee, scraping and painting the trim on a house under contract to a veteran. The appraiser had turned down the house for a VA loan. “I was determined to close that purchase – to get that veteran into that house,” he says.

“From a mobile to a mansion, I’ll sell it,” he adds.

He enjoys helping first-time homebuyers and sellers who are downsizing. “It’s important to actually listen to the client and understand their needs.”

With deals from 37917 and 37919 in north and west Knoxville to Greeneville and Wears Valley, Absher stretches to cover the area. He’s done deals from $25,000 to $1.1 million.

He sees a trend toward larger, multi-generational homes. Some have two master suites; others have an accessory dwelling unit for grandparents. Whatever the future brings, Kelly Absher will live in Knoxville.

“I love it here,” he says. “Every day I find something new.”
