The Knox County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting its fourth annual Mud Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, August 3, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at Holston Chilhowee Ballfields, 5900 Asheville Highway, 37924.
This tournament brings the Knoxville community together for a fun and safe day with our local law enforcement officers while also raising money for programs that benefit the community.

Down in the mud, may not be on the winning team….
This year’s tournament proceeds will benefit the Employee Assistance Fund.
The Officer/ Employee assistance Fund helps employees and their families in the event of a health crisis, the death of an immediate family member or other financial hardship. Due to the generosity of those who have given to the fund, Officer Cody Wheeler said, “We were able to assist Deputy Tucker Blakely’s wife when he was killed in the line of duty, as the fund has been a blessing to many other of our employees in times of need.”
In previous years, the proceeds from the Mud Volleyball Tournament provided officers more opportunities to assist our community through programs such as D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and Project Lifesaver.

Winning team: unidentified, but don’t blame them. However, Officer Cody Wheeler is front right in fairly clean orange shirt
The sponsorship support from local businesses has maximized the Mud Volleyball Tournament goals each year. Local businesses include Kimball’s Jewelers, Vinyard Flooring, Enrichment Bank, Tim’s Fencing, Axle Logistics plus more including Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler and Chief Deputy Bernie Lyon.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office not only aims to protect and serve, but as Office Cody Wheeler says, “We look to create more ways to engage with our Knoxville community, providing events such as the Mud Volleyball Tournament so we can bring the connection with our local community and law enforcement.”
