An informational Zoom session describing the process to become a Knox County Master Gardener will be held Thursday, October 24, 11 a.m. – noon. The free session will be presented by Rylan Thompson, Knox County Extension master gardener coordinator. Participants will learn about the 2025 training program, community volunteer projects and how to apply.

To become a master gardener, those admitted into the program must complete 40 hours of in-person training, held at the University of Tennessee Extension Eastern Region office at 1801 Downtown West. Classes will be from 6-8:30 p.m. each Tuesday, January 14 through April 29.

Topics include basic botany, soil science, weed science, water management, landscaping, growing vegetables, native plants, soil science, integrated pest management and subjects. The course is both lecture-based and hands-on training, led by horticulture specialists. Volunteer hours at KCMG project sites are also required each year.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, November 1, 2024. A $200 registration fee is due after acceptance into the program and includes all training materials. Scholarships are available.
