Get Out & Play: Sweet Sounds of Summer

Carol EvansFeature

School is back in session, but there are still plenty of activities to keep your summertime weekends fun and interesting. This weekend, free concerts in the park make it easy to get out and play while experiencing something new in one of our beautiful natural spaces.

Catch one of the last two concerts of Knox County Parks and Recreation’s family-friendly Second Saturday Concert Series this Saturday, Aug. 11. Both shows are  6-8 p.m. Freequency, an Americana, rock, county and soul band will be performing at The Cove at Concord Park, and Wild Blue Yonder, an energetic bluegrass ensemble, will perform at New Harvest Park. Make sure to arrive early and pack blankets or lawn chairs to sit on.

Want to fully experience these parks before the show? Concord Park has all kinds of activities, including fishing, a beach with swimming access, and walking and biking paths. New Harvest Park has both paved and natural surface scenic walking loops along with a playground and splash pad for the kids. Plan for plenty of time to soak in the summer fun before settling into your spot in the crowd for some delightful tunes just before sunset.
