Volunteering in skilled nursing facilities is a way to not only give back in the community, but also to give back to the home’s residents, many of whom may have given to their communities throughout their lives.
Gary’s weekly game nights are a huge hit with residents. They often stay up til the wee hours and need to sleep it off the next morning.
The Tennessee Health Care Association recently recognized Gary and Donna Gomes as their THCA Volunteers of the Year. Susan Smith, the activities director for Beverly Park Place, said of Gary and Donna Gomes, “They do everything from crafts, special events for residents and staff, game nights, make seasonal decor for Beverly Park Place, Bible study, and anything in between. They absolutely ROCK!”
