If getting downtown early is in your plans for Saturday, Aug. 21, wander over to the First Century Bank Building and make sure you look up. Participants in Over the Edge will start rappelling down the 16 stories of the Trotter/First Century building starting at 8 a.m. in this fund-raiser for The Restoration House. The building is adjacent to Krutch Park and Market Square. For details and registration go here.

Science at Sugarlands Virtual: 1-3 p.m. via Zoom. Join Discover Life in America for a Science at Sugarlands virtual course on Water Bears of the Smokies with Paul Bartels. Event is free. Link to join Zoom here.

Constellations of the Night Skies: 9 p.m. at Norris Dam State Park. Event is free. Join Ranger Trent at the Norris Dam State Park pool parking lot for a view of the night sky constellations. Saturday, August 21

Sunrise Waterfall Hike: 6:45 a.m. at Frozen Head State Park. Cost is $10. Watch the park wake up while experiencing Frozen Head’s 2 unique waterfalls. Meet at the Panther Branch trailhead for our 3-mile roundtrip hike. For more info or to register go here or call 423-346-3318.

Edible and Medicinal Plant Hike: 8 a.m. at Seven Islands State Birding Park. Cost is $8.. Join Ranger Clare on a 2.5-mile hike to look edible and medicinal plants. English and Native Garden Tour: 10 a.m. at Fort Loudoun State Historic Park. Cost is $5. Tour the English and Native Garden and learn about the plants and their uses and our QR code system for the garden. We’ll be giving out extra cuts that we have of our larger herb plants. Paddle with a Ranger along the Clinch River: 10 a.m. at Melton Lake Park. Event is free. Join Park Rangers for a relaxing trip along the Clinch River. Birding with Friends: 8 a.m. at Seven Islands State Birding Park. Event is free. Our birding guide will lead an early morning birding hike, identifying by sight and sound some of the 200 species of birds spotted at the park. Terrain level to rolling. Nature Nuggets: Little Wonders: 10 a.m. at Ijams Nature Center. Cost is $6. This month celebrate all the small natural wonders around us every day. Main focus is hummingbirds, but we’ll explore butterflies, dragonflies, and other tiny, overlooked parts of our natural world too. Children 2-4. Greenway and Urban Hikes: 6: p.m. at Lakeshore Park Greenway. Event is free in coordination with the City of Knoxville. Join a guided greenway walk or urban trail hike.
