Freaky Friday Fright Nite: Safe Halloween fun

Sandra ClarkFarragut, Our Town Neighbors

The 26th annual Freaky Friday Fright Nite takes place from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Mayor Bob Leonard Park. Children ages 12 and under are invited to “trick or treat” on the walking trail while local businesses, community groups and town of Farragut volunteers hand out treats and provide games with prizes and cookie decorating.

This is a free event, but participants are asked to bring items to benefit the local Ronald McDonald House, a “home away from home” for families with critically ill children who are being served by area hospitals.

Collection stations will be located next to the cookie decorating area off the main parking lot on Watt Road and next to the entrance from the Harrison Lane parking lot. Suggested donations are canned foods, instant mashed potatoes, small salt and pepper sets, small bottles of spices, gallon and quart size storage bags, canned fruit or fruit pie fillings, regular flavored coffee pods, Jello and applesauce cups, postage stamps, Sharpie markers, packing tape, rolls of Scotch tape, disposable coffee cups, gift cards and cash.

For the first time, Kona Ice and the Hot Dog Hut will be on location with snacks for purchase. They will accept cash and all major credit cards, but not Apple Pay.

Info: Merritt Piper at mpiper@townoffarragut.org or 865-218-3378. The event will be held rain or shine; however, in the case of severe weather, check Farragut Parks & Rec on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for event status.
