Food City sells groceries – working toward founder Jack Smith’s charge to be “the best store in town.”

But during fall, Food City associates are all over, hosting pep rallies, collecting for food banks, helping Dogwood Arts and giving prizes to area residents.

At Powell on Nov. 12, the year’s final UT Pep Rally with WIVK drew an outstanding crowd. The big winners were Bobbie and David Yoder, who walked away with two tickets to the UT-Georgia football game, a gift basket of UT swag and a $100 Food City gift card.

Dogwood Arts: Food City officials joined Mtn Dew in celebrating the soft drink company’s $15,000 donation to support three hiking trails in East Tennessee. Awards of $5,000 went to:

  • Dogwood Arts in Knoxville
  • Tennessee Riverpark in Chattanooga
  • Mendota Trail in Bristol, Virginia

Race Against Hunger enables Food City customers to donate at checkout for local hunger relief organizations. Last year’s program raised over $600,000. This promotion runs through November.

Friends & Pets in Need is in its fourth year. Food City customers may purchase a bag of non-perishable food items or pet food products for $10. After buying the bag, customer deposits it in a barrel at front of store. Promotion runs through December.
