We’re a day early with our East Knox blog because …

Town Hall East meets today (11/14/22) at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. And Sandra Korbelik says the THE board has donated “delicious pies” to share. The program contains tips to keep you safe through the holidays including (but probably not limited to) holiday scammers, false news, porch-theft, burglaries and fire.

Melodic Mic Night with the Black Musicians Alliance of UTK will be held Thursday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. at The Bottom, 2340 E. Magnolia Ave., Knoxville. Seating is limited and attendees must RSVP. From singers, to songwriters and performers, this event is for BMA artists and creatives to have a space to express and share their artistry with the community. Info and RSVP here.

Tammi Campbell, executive principal of Austin-East Magnet High School, will speak to the East Knox Business & Professional Association, Thursday, Nov. 17, at 8 a.m. at the school. Parking will be behind the school near the ballfield (enter off Hembree Street). Follow the signs through the double doors near Hembree Street. Breakfast will be provided by Pastelito’s Cuban Pastries.

EKBPA wants your books! For November and December meetings, bring new and gently-used books for children ages 3-5. The collected books will be distributed to children at Fair Garden Pre-K for them to take home. Book collection boxes are also located at the Muse, Likewise Coffee and the Magnolia Pellissippi campus from now until December.

Comcast Christmas at Chilhowee will launch Friday, Nov. 18, from 6-9 p.m. rain or shine at Chilhowee Park. Mayor Indya Kincannon invited the community for free photos with Santa, free hot cocoa, hayrides and a holiday “Touch-A-Truck” where kids will be able to see construction vehicles, police cars and a firetruck up close. Parking and all activities are free; there will be food sold on-site.

Holidays for Heroes: Ronnie Collins posted an invitation to participate in this event during Christmas at Chilhowee, Friday, Nov. 18, starting at 6 p.m. The group will provide paper for making cards and will have other cards to be signed. The cards will be distributed to veterans before Christmas. “Since 2013, we have written out cards for service members and given them to the Red Cross. In 2019, we went to the James H. Quillen VA Healthcare System at Mountain Home, Tennessee, and learned our one card might make a difference,” according to the post.
