I wonder what other artists notice when surveying an area for a subject to paint. A few weeks ago, in Cades Cove, I spied my spot to recreate on a drive down Hyatt Lane. Unseasonably warm weather, with a crisp sky, this was just the pre-spring tonic I sought.
Drawn to the light grassy spot this church sits atop, this 8×16 piece details the winter grasses and the grey mountain tops yet to come to life. For 120 years Cades Cove Methodist Church has been a spiritual icon of the Cove. In winter her backside is seen from Hyatt Lane. Come Around Back for a look.
