Local old-time musicians from The Lincoln Park String Band (LPSB) secured a 5th place ribbon at the prestigious 54th Annual Mount Airy Blue Grass & Old-Time Fiddlers Convention over the weekend. Competing under the name Steamrollers (representing Corryton, TN), the ensemble featured LPSB members Frank Bronson, Carolyn Upchurch, and Tom Cook, alongside guest musicians Ben Townsend and Amy Alvy, the latter of whom also took home the 1st place blue ribbon in the highly competitive individual Old-Time Fiddle category.This victory marks a continuous streak of regional success for the musicians. Earlier this spring, the core Steamrollers group also placed at the 8th Annual Upper East Tennessee Fiddler’s Convention, held April 24–25 at the historic Old Flag Pond School.

Beyond the convention stage, The Lincoln Park String Band is dedicated to keeping regional music and dance traditions alive at home. The band hosts a monthly square dance at the historic Laurel Theater, 1538 Laurel Ave, Knoxville, on the fourth Tuesday of each month, 7 -9 p.m. $10 admission at the door with no prior experience or dance partner required.
