A group of Knox County students is making a lasting difference in the lives of local veterans by helping construct tiny homes through the Operation Hero’s Hill project. The initiative aims to create a community of 20 tiny homes and a central gathering space for veterans experiencing homelessness.
Students enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs are working alongside professional contractors and skilled trades experts to build the homes. D.R. Horton has provided all the building supplies. The project provides valuable hands-on training while teaching students the importance of service and community involvement.
Local leaders say the effort addresses two important needs at once: providing housing for veterans and preparing the next generation of skilled workers. Through partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, and the construction industry, students are gaining real-world experience while helping create safe, stable housing for those who have served our country.
When completed, Hero’s Hill will offer more than just a place to live. The community will provide supportive services and resources designed to help veterans transition to long-term stability and success.
