Animal lovers and bourbon enthusiasts alike have a perfect reason to head to Townsend this weekend. On Saturday, April 19, from 1–4 p.m., the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley (HSTV) is partnering with Company Distilling for a tail-wagging good time at Barks & Bourbon.

Set against the scenic backdrop of the Smoky Mountains, this unique event blends community, compassion, and craft cocktails, all in support of local shelter animals looking for their forever homes.

For a few hours, Company Distilling will transform into a pop-up meet-and-greet space where guests can spend time with some of HSTV’s adoptable puppies. Whether you’re seriously considering adoption or simply in need of some puppy cuddles, the event offers a relaxed, welcoming environment to connect with animals in ways that go beyond a traditional shelter visit.

In addition to the adorable guests of honor, attendees can enjoy two specialty cocktails crafted just for the occasion: the Good Boy Old Fashioned and the Second Chance Sour. With each sip, visitors are not only enjoying Company Distilling’s signature craftsmanship, but also supporting the mission of HSTV, helping animals get the second chances they deserve.

The event is free to attend, making it an easy addition to any weekend plans. Guests are encouraged to come out, bring friends, and spend an afternoon enjoying good drinks, good company, and some very good dogs. While adoptions may take place on-site, even those who aren’t ready to bring home a pet can make an impact by learning more about fostering, volunteering, or supporting HSTV’s programs.

Events like Barks & Bourbon highlight the power of community partnerships in animal welfare. By collaborating with local businesses like Company Distilling, HSTV is able to expand its reach, raise awareness, and ultimately help more animals find loving homes.

So, whether you’re a bourbon connoisseur, a dog lover, or simply looking for a feel-good way to spend a Saturday afternoon, Barks & Bourbon promises a memorable experience with heart.

Come for the cocktails, stay for the cuddles, and who knows, you might just meet your new best friend.

Pet Tip: Fleas and ticks thrive in spring. Staying consistent with preventatives is key to avoiding infestations and protecting your pet from illnesses like Lyme disease, heartworms and skin infections. Treatment is far more costly than preventative measures.

A stand-alone 501 (c) (3) limited-admissions animal shelter, Humane Society, Tennessee Valley, receives no funding from national humane entities or government agencies; it relies solely on private donations and grant funding.
