Biz Notes: Ron Williams, Blaze Bowers, Bernard Savarese

Ron Williams, mayor of the town of Farragut, was elected second vice president of the Tennessee Municipal League at the TML’s recent conference in Chattanooga. Franklin Mayor Ken Moore was elected president. Vice presidents are traditionally in line to serve as president. Henderson Mayor Bobby King was elected first VP and Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown was elected third VP. Williams is a Knoxville native who grew up in Powell and Fountain City and received his education at the Knoxville State Area VoTec, SME and the University of Tennessee. He was elected South Ward alderman in 2016 and mayor in 2018. He has also served two terms on the Farragut Board of Zoning Appeals.

Blaze Bowers has been named assistant vice president for academic and student support services at Lincoln Memorial University. A native of Florida, Bowers is a graduate of Grace College and Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana, with a degree in secondary education and history and licensure in secondary social studies education. He also holds a Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law in Florida. In this role, Bowers will provide leadership to the services offered through the Office of Institutional Compliance, Student Activities and Engagement, Dean of Students, Academic Support Services, Student Support Services and LMU’s Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Engagement. Additionally, he will oversee the First Year Experience program, Mental Health Counseling and Career Services.

Bernard Savarese has been named assistant vice president for student success for the University of Tennessee System. He currently is the assistant vice president for student success and the student experience at New York University (NYU). Among other responsibilities, Savarese will work collaboratively with each of the UT campuses to coordinate and promote high-quality academic student experiences across the UT System.

Fall Open House for prospective students at Pellissippi State Community College will be Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 9:15-11:15 a.m. at the Hardin Valley Campus, specifically at the Clayton Performing Arts Center.
