South Knoxville Elementary stays busy all year, as Michelle Thompson says, “ensuring the kids are still developing and growing academically.” Thompson is the director of the Boys & Girls Club at SKE, guaranteeing the program continues providing that enrichment.

One recent week’s program focused on natural wonders of mountains, islands, parks, canyons and bodies of water. The kids learned about the natural wonders in Syria: Mount Quassion, Arward Island, Norias Park, The Canyon and Euphrates River.

Yassin from Yassin’s Falafel House provided lunch from a mid-eastern culture to go along with the academic enrichment activity. Lana, a worker at the Falafel house, provided the kids with the history and culture behind Yassin’s Falafel House. Director Thompson said, “This was great way for our kids to experience first-hand the middle eastern food.”

Hands-on learning is so effective and Thompson is making this summer one of great experiences for her group of SKE kids.
