The YMCA of East Tennessee will operate the Tennova Health & Fitness Center, based on a press release from Tennova.
The health and fitness center opened 23 years ago as the first facility built by then-St. Mary’s on the Emory Road site that now is home to a hospital, imaging wing and offices for various medical professionals.
Jim Dickson, president and CEO of the YMCA of East Tennessee, is excited to bring the Y’s mission to the broader North Knox community. “All programs and services (currently offered in Halls) will be reestablished at the new Tennova Family YMCA,” he said. “Relocating to a more central location situated near I-75 between Powell and Halls better positions the Y to serve even more people in the greater North Knoxville community.”
The Y is expected to sell the Bob Temple Y facility in Halls, although that has not been announced.
The multi-story facility at 7540 Dannaher Dr. includes a therapy pool and 6-lane lap swimming pool, basketball courts, racquetball/squash court, climbing wall, and a large workout center with indoor track.
No timetable was set for the opening, but the Y is expected to replace existing workout equipment. We will update this story as more information is available.
